Go have your talk, but the adults will take it from here

Every single time there is a mass shooting, the stalling tactics of the interest groups come out in full force, and exhibit A is embedded below.  There is no exhibit B as these are the same tired old tropes that have been used for the last 20 years.  I can save you 5 minutes and 43 seconds by summarizing:
  1. Guns aren't the problem.  We all proudly showed off the guns we got for Christmas as kids in school.  We brought them on the bus, and kept them in our lockers and nothing bad happened.
  2. We're a violent culture.  Video games and movies have desensitized our kids to violence, and the games have become more realistic.  One game awards extra points for "finishing off" your opponent.
  3. We need to have a dialogue about it, but those who think restricting access to firearms need to "get a new idea."
  4. Those who think otherwise don't realize that just as much carnage can be brought on with other things like cars.

I could deconstruct all of this, easily.  For example, the "finishing off" game he refers to is clearly Mortal Kombat, a Kung-Fu game that was popular back when I was in college over 20 years ago.  I played it and never killed or wanted to kill anyone, kind of like the good Governor who took his gun on the school bus.  I could go on, but it would be a waste of time because here's the thing about arguments like this: they are designed to trigger liberals and gun control advocates.  But what happens when people who aren't die hard lefties also know that this guy is full of shit?  We'll see, since many gun rights advocates are taking a moderate stance on this issue and the arguments designed to trigger the libtards.  They do believe in the second amendment (as do I), and they do so not just for sport or hunting, but for personal defense and to check the threat of governmental tyranny, yet they don't for a minute think that we need to look at everything besides how we regulate firearms.  And that has been lacking until recently, which indicates that the culture is indeed shifting.  The lax regulatory environment is actually the old idea we've continued to try in spite of its repeated failure.

Go ahead and have your dialogue Governor about a Kung-Fu video game that stopped being relevant in 1997 while the sick minds out there; being twisted by our violence desensitized culture, continue to:

  • easily stockpile weapons designed for a firefight in a war zone
  • conduct reconnaissance and make plans
A lot of people who advocate for second amendment rights have stopped listening to this jackassery. We say to the Governor that we've tried it your way, and people continue to be slaughtered in increasing numbers.  As a society, people are refusing to trust that every time a combat weapon is purchased, that it has been purchased by someone who will only use it responsibly.  If you do want to have an honest dialogue about video games though, I'll present to you the Forbes list of the 10 most popular games in  2017 which is during the current century (not the previous century when Mortal Kombat was the big seller):
  1. Call of Duty: WWII - A first person shooter where the player acts out violent play of protagonists using guns
  2. NBA 2K18 - A sports themed game that would not be described as portraying violence with intent to harm or kill
  3. Destiny 2 - A first person shooter where the player acts out violent play of the protagonist using a gun
  4. Madden NFL 18 - A sports themed game that would not be described as portraying violence with intent to harm or kill
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - a fantasy game where the protagonist uses medieval  weapons to battle evil creatures
  6. Grand Theft Auto V - the protagonists are criminals attempting to conduct heists and do so with use of guns.  They also engage in firefights with law enforcement.  A first person shooter perspective is one of two optional views for game play
  7. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands - A violent tactical shooter game set in an open world environment and played from a third person perspective with an option first person view for gun aiming
  8. Star Wars: Battlefront II 2017 - an action shooter game based on the Star Wars franchise
  9. Super Mario Odyssey - Mario travels across many worlds in an effort to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, who plans to marry her.  Guns are not a feature
  10. Mario Kart 8 - Race in a kart with Mario and his friends
All but one of the games on this list that are violent have their protagonists using guns as their tool of choice.  There are no games on this list where widespread efficient lethal force is applied through the use of a car however.
